We are asking each of you to participate by providing an opportunity for others to register to vote prior to the November elections. Every One Vote 2008 materials can be used in the workplace, with your volunteer associations, or at your place of worship.
Any citizen who will be eighteen years of age on or before November 4, 2008, is eligible to register and vote. Research shows that the most effective method of engaging someone in the voting process is peer-to-peer contact, so your participation will make a difference.
You can choose whatever format and frequency will work best for you. It can be as simple as sending an e-mail message with the attached forms to those you work with, community association members, and others, or you may prefer to set up a voter registration table over lunch or after work, at a neighborhood association meeting, or at your community organization's fall kick off, or after a weekly religious gathering.
All citizens must be registered 30 days in advance; therefore, the deadline is October 4, 2008.
See below for all the information you need to participate in the Every One Vote campaign:
Every One Vote 2008 sign - You can download and print this sign to post in advance. Insert the day, date, time and place as appropriate.
Request for Absentee Ballot (includes addresses and telephone numbers for county Boards of Voter Registration) - Print and cut (there are 4 per page). These can be attached to a voter registration form or made available for those who wish to call or mail in on their own. If the form is attached to the voter registration form, it needs only a signature; the rest of the information does not have to be completed because it is on the attached voter registration form.
Candidate forums flyer lists forums in October 2008 sponsored by Charleston Area Chamber of Commerce and League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area. Print and post on bulletin boards and/or email to your networks.
If you are pick up voter registration forms at your local Board of Voter Registration, consider also picking up a supply of the brochures "Voting in South Carolina" and 1-2-3 VOTE to have available.
You can either hand out voter registration forms for individuals to complete and mail in on their own, or you can collect the forms and deliver them to your local Board of Voter Registration. There is no need to separate forms for each county; whichever county receives the forms will ensure distribution to the correct county for processing. We ask that, if at all possible, you deliver the forms in person; if not possible, please send them by priority mail.
Please feel free to contact one of the representatives from the League of Women Voters of the Charleston Area listed below for assistance in providing voter registration or to answer any questions. We would also appreciate hearing from you regarding your efforts as a part of this campaign. Your participation is sincerely appreciated.
